AEO-MRA Signing Ceremony?between the Customs Department of the Kingdom of Thailand
and the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China
On 6 February 2025, Beijing, People's Republic of China. Mr. Theeraj Athanavanich, Director-General of the Thai Customs Department and Ms. Sun Meijun, Secretary of the CPC Committee of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC), officially signed the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) for the parties respective AEO Programmme, Authorized Economic Operators (AEO) Programme and Enterprise Credit Management, respectively.
With the signing of the MRA, Thai AEOs will receive trade facilitation benefits on customs procedures when exporting to China. This arrangement marks the eighth MRA achieved by Thai Customs, following the MRAs with other customs administrations including Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, Japan, New Zealand and ASEAN.
China is Thailand's key trade partner, ranking first in term of trade value in 2024 with a total trade volume of 4 trillion baht. Recognizing the importance of enhancing supply chain security and facilitating trade, both countries began the MRA negotiation since 2019, and conducted joint-site validation in 2023.
Following the signing of MRA, Thai Customs and GACC will continue to cooperate toward the implementation to ensure benefits exchange for Thai AEOs in future steps.
